Great designs for great ideas.
Before buying any console, I always have a dilemma. Should I buy one with the original design? Or should I pick up the special edition one? Some of you must’ve had this dilemma at least once. We thought there was no answer to this.
But, Nintendo proved us wrong. When they unveiled that “The New 3DS” will have replaceable cover plates, I was ecstatic. This is my dream. I could change the design of my console in a matter of minutes without the bulk of a case!
However, another dilemma emerges. Which 3DS cover plates should I buy? Up to the 19th of August there are 76 designs. And an ordinary person wouldn’t be able to pick all of them up. So, I’m here to suggest some of my favorites! Here they are:
Special Textures (#12 and #24)
Usually, 3DS cover plates are either glossy or matte. However, these ones break that prejudice and said, “We can be made of whatever we want!”
And they sure did it. Cover plate #12 is made out of felt, which feels very comfortable. But, beware the ickiness when in contact with sweaty palms. Meanwhile, #24 is made out of wood, that gives a very firm and durable feeling that plastic can’t even come close to giving.
Invisible (#21, #22, and #40)
I’m not a fan of invisible consoles, but they are certainly unique! I mean, how many people could look at the back of their 3DS and be like, “That’s a nice battery, I got here.”
Glow in The Dark (#50)
This case comes with the design of boos, that ghost in Super Mario Bros. Although at first glance it looks ordinary, when the lights are off, it’s their time to shine!
The Legend of Zelda (#55)
There’s a total of 2 Zelda 3DS cover plates, but let’s be honest. The Majora’s Mask design looks terrible – at least, that’s what I thought of it. It looks like they decided to take a random picture and slap it in there.
The other cover plate, however, is such a beauty. It features a minimalist look with the Triforce pattern that is beautiful when incorporated with both the black and white New 3DS.
Super Mario Maker (#67)
This time around, Nintendo decided to take all their greatest frachises, like Zelda, Splatoon, Mario, etc. and put it in a single cover plate. It’s a great solution for a guy like me, who can’t even decide which I like better : Mario or Pokémon.
Monster Hunter (#22 – Australian)
Nintendo, once more, took the minimalist approach. They gathered the symbols of several monsters and put it with a white background. Great move, Nintendo!
Once I saw the Splatoon cover, I immediately fell for it. It’s just so relatable to me. The background is black, but they splashes several bright colors in there that makes my ADHD heart explodes.
Minimalistic Mario & Luigi (#47 and #48)
The Mario & Luigi cover plates were one of the first ones to be announced. I wasn’t happy about the design, however, because it looks so daunting.
But, when I saw this one, a sigh of relief was heard. By now, you must know that I like minimalist design. However, the red/green and white combination of this cover blew my mind! And don’t even get me started on that mustache!
That concludes some of my favorites 3DS cover plates as of August 2016. Aren’t they beautiful? Hey, I’ve told you mine! Now, it’s your turn. Tell me you favorite 3DS cover plate(s) in the comments below!
